About ME
Hello, my name is Renee Lilley.
I have spent nearly 20 years working in child welfare, with much of my career focused on training, supporting, and developing others. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and I am completing my master’s degree in Instructional Design and Performance Technology. My path into instructional design grew naturally from the work I was already doing, creating training, working with subject matter experts, supporting learners, and finding better ways to make information easier to understand and apply.
What I enjoy most about instructional design is that it brings together so many of the things I enjoy: working with people, being creative, solving problems, and using technology to create meaningful learning experiences.
Background
My background in psychology and child welfare has taught me empathy, perspective-taking, and how to connect with people. These skills shape my work as an instructional designer. Before deciding what a learning experience should look like, I seek to understand who I am designing for, what they need, and what may be getting in the way.
Accessibility and inclusion are central to my design process. I create learning experiences that are clear, flexible, and welcoming for people with different abilities, backgrounds, and familiarity with the topic. Through plain language, thoughtful visual design, and multiple ways to engage with content, I make learning more approachable and meaningful for everyone.
